persepolis blog one

question 2: I believe that the book is alot more powerful told just as it happened versus being fictionalized. Putting fiction into it could have made it more interesting or longer or more dramatic, but the reader doesn't really get the full effect. Hearing or reading a real story how it happened is much more interesting than reading something where all the interesting stuff just gets thrown in. Another memoir type thing that i've read is the things they carried. although both stories are about different things, the dramatic aspect of it ties them together. a benefit of memoirs is that you get the story exactly how it happened. nothing is sugar coated or thrown in for good measure. with memoirs, one actually gets a sense of what it feels like to be going through whatever the author went through. they're much more powerful than just a story. a drawback is maybe what the author is writing about isn't too interesting. i actually don't know any drawbacks of memoirs hahah.

question 9: the kids did this by purchasing their "hip" items in an underground black market type thing. they kept it a secret from the government so that they would at least try and have a little bit of freedom in the sense that they can be the kind of person they want to be. they did this by wearing and buying what they wanted. If i was a child in this environment, i would have done the same exact thing. I wouldn't want to be like everyone else, i'd want to be my own person. if someone tells me that i can't do something, i get the urge to do it. my rebellious acts pretty much just consisted of not listening to my parents. if they tell me not to do something, i usually do it. if they tell me they don't like the way i did something, i do it the same way next time. Satrapi is like a normal kid because of her rellious nature. that's something that the government wasn't able to take away from her.

question 5: i find the writer's voice very appealing. once i starting reading it, it was really hard for me to put it down. one of the things that i like the most about marji's character was her rebellious nature. i also like how even as a child, she had a sense of what was going on. she knew that the things that were going on were dangerous, and she had a sense of why it was all happening. I also liked the fact that even though her parents sometimes disagreed with her views on certain things, she still kept her stand and fought for what she believed in. there's nothing about her that i didn't really like. my reaction to her might have effected my reading experience a little bit. i think i went into the book having a little more respect for what she went through.

feed blog numero tres: conformity vs. individuality

reflection!

1. the images that i put up show my theme because they show a few different sides of both conformity and individuality. it shows that conformity is everywhere and it obviously gives a picture type of definition of what both my topics are.

2. my message is that conformity is the enemy. it takes away all uniqueness and individuality. conformity makes it so that everyone is a clone of everyone else. it's the same old boring thing over and over and over again. although there are some people who think the opposite, and that individuality is the enemy. but individuality is really the only thing that defines a person these days.
3. i chose the sheep image because it shows that even with a group of other things that are conformed, there can still be a sense of individuality within. i chose the image with the quote on it because i agree with it 100%. Really the only thing that divides a person from everyone else is the things that they do differently. i chose the pencil one again because i agree with the quote. you shouldn't be afraid to do what you want to do. i chose the image of the warning because its true. once you begin to become like everyone else, it becomes addicting. and after awhile, your not even your own person anymore. i chose the "the enemy is individuality" one because i think it's complete bullshit. being like everyone else doesn't help anything. not even in the homeland security sector. i chose the peeps one just because they're peeps. who doesn't love peeps? the conformity is death one has many different meanings. it means the death of certain cultures, religions, and the death of the person someone really is. all the pictures symbolize something.
4. the idea of conformity vs. individuality has been included in my life in many ways. first off, in school. some of the lessons that we learn in history are based off of this. for example, hitler and his master blonde hair, blue eye race. that's a perfect example of conformity. also within advertising in a way. everyone is supposed to look a certain way in order to fit in. if you wear all the expensive clothes and what not, your sure to get along with everyone. conformity is supposed to bring us together. we look the same, we think the same, so we're bound to have something in common, right? yeah, you know what we have in common? we're dumbasses.
5. i've developed these from what i've read, seen, experienced and been told. aka: the media, friends, enemies, parents, teachers, books, ect.
6. i feel like individuality is key. being yourself and doing your own thing is alot harder than following what everyone else is doing. thinking for yourself is a whole hell of a lot harder than following the direction of someone else. i personally think that conformity is a joke.

feed blog numero dos

yes! the second blog about this wonderful book.

Violet's "project" is to resist the feed. Her willingness to try something like this shows that she is rebellious and still has the ability to think for herself and make her own decisions. Unlike our other friends in the book, who obey whatever this piece of technology says. Also unlike the other characters, Violet has the ability to live a normal happy life without the feed telling her what to do. But unfortunately, everything in her body is controlled by the feed. So she can't totally detach herself from it. So technically, the feed could be considered some sort of major organ like the heart, brain, lungs, ect. Which leads to the quote "like if you carried your lungs in a suitcase and opened it to breathe."

This just proves that the feed is the leader of all functions. Like seriously, errything (yeah, I know there's a v in there, I just chose to not use it.) The feed to our futuristic friends is mandatory. I mean, it would be sooo challenging to think for themselves and shop on their own right? Wow. It's pathetic. That has to be one of the stupidest ideas since online shopping, aka the good 'ole ebay.

And the feed doesn't really know what you need before you realize it. The feed tells you that you need it. Even though you don't. Consumerism! Brain-washing! AHHH! The feed is run by the corporations. The big bad-ass corporations need money. They get money by people buying their products. They have the power to tell people what they should buy, what the need to buy, and what they "need" to buy. SO. The feed doesn't really give the consumer and acurate description of what they need. They just tell the person what they should buy so the corporations can get mo' money. It's complete bullshit. But it's not much different from what's going on in our world.

feed blog numero uno

So I have no idea what I was writing the last time before my internet decided it hates me and killed my blog. But let's try this again.
First off, I finished Feed in a matter of days. I was gonna try and stay with the class, but I couldn't resist. It was amazing. But anyways. Reading the book really made me think about what the future is going to be like. It could be like the book. It could be worse. Or maybe we'll get lucky and things will change for the better, not for the worst. The idea of relying on technology so much that humans won't even think for themselves is a scary thought. The feed makes it so that the people in the book don't do anything based off of what they think. They do the things that the feed tells them to do. For example, the girls constantly changing their hairstyles. The kids in the book are really set on following the trends. The feed tells them that there's something bigger and better out there and they have to have it. It's pathetic. Not like the united states isn't already like that, but the whole idea of a feed takes it to a whole new level. At least most of us still think for ourselves at this point. In a way. The book takes consumerism to a whole to level. The feed tells them everything they need to know about the things that they wanna buy, and all they have to do is decide whether or not they want the item, and it gets shipped to their house within a few days. They're constantly bombarded with advertisements and different places to eat and shop at. They don't really have time to actually think about what the ad is saying because another one comes along right away. Another thing that turns into a trend is the lesions. I personally don't see how holes in the skin is attractive, but whatever gets you off I guess. It's sad that they're willing to hurt themselves in order to follow the trend and make an attempt at being better than everyone else. Another compare and contrast piece is the care of the environment. Yeah, we're currently letting the earth go to shit. But this is nothing compared to what the world is like in the book. At the time in the book, there's nothing left. Nothing. Everything is dead and the few things that are left can't even survive on their own. At least we still have some trees making some oxygen. And we still have water. And some other nature junk. But in the book, not only have they already destroyed the earth, but they're also starting the destruction of other planets. It's just a really scary thought if this is what we have to look forward to. All of it. The feed. The planet. The lesions. Everything.
